Field Trip to Windsor Fairgrounds This Week!

On Thursday, May 16, all first graders will be visiting the New England Livestock Expo at the Windsor Fairgrounds. Our bus will leave school at 9 a.m. and return at 1:30 p.m. Please make sure to have your child dress in layers to accommodate any weather. We’ll eat lunch at the fairgrounds, so don’t forget to pack a lunch unless you signed up for a school lunch.

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

How Long is a Whale Shark?

Well, we learned that it’s the biggest shark and that it can be as long as 60 feet. As we were reading the Sharks book by Gail Gibbons, I had been comparing many of the other sharks sizes to my height, saying that’s about one of me or that’s about three of me. Of course, when we got to this one they wanted to know how many of me that would be.

So, I told them it would be about as long as 17 first graders and two teachers. “Wow!” they said. “Picture what it would look like if we all laid down and lined ourselves up,” I said. “Can we?” they asked. “Why not!” I replied. So, that’s what we did in the hallway. Here it is.

Dear Parents,

We are very excited about our upcoming author celebration on Friday this week. We look forward to seeing many of you come to look at and listen to some of the books your kids have written in their realistic fiction series.

From 1:45-2:00 p.m. you can browse through the books in their series. Starting at 2:00 p.m., each student will read one book aloud.

Join us afterwards for some light refreshments.

Thank You,

100th Day and Valentine’s Day!

Hello Everyone,

Thanks to the snow day, we celebrated the 100th day and Valentine’s Day on February 14th. We did some extra fun activities throughout the day. We colored a pair of 100 glasses in the morning.  We made a paper chain with 100 links in math. We wrote stories about what we would do if Mr. Trump gave us $100. We added our goodies to the trail mix and had a yummy chocolate chip cookie cake at the end of the day too.

Thanks to the family members who came in to celebrate with us at the end of the day: Lacey Shay, Pentipa Meservey, Amy Johnson, Jessica Pendleton, and Ryleigh’s grandmother. Thank you also to Lacey and Amy for volunteering to read a 100th Day story to the class.

Enjoy the pictures below!

100th Day Set for 2/13!

Hello Everyone,

We are getting ready for the upcoming “100th Day of School” celebration! Assuming there are no snow days between now and then, it will fall on Wednesday, February 13th. Letters went home today with a request to help your students put together a collection of 100 small items to bring in to show the class. There’s also a request to send in 100 pieces of a particular food item to help make a class trail mix. We have all sorts of fun activities planned in our room for each subject area throughout the day. Parents are invited to join us for the collection share and to read 100th Day books at 2:30 p.m.

I have attached a copy of the letter here for anyone who has misplaced it.
