“Star of the Week” Starts Soon!

Hello Everyone,

It has been a little while. I hope everyone found their December break relaxing and fun! Now that we are back in our first full week of school in 2019, interesting weather in all, we’re getting ready to start celebrating our “Star of the Week.”

Each child will randomly be selected to be the “Star of the Week” starting the week of January 14th and continuing on until all 18 students have had a turn. You’ll have to help them fill out their “favorite things” sheet. They can bring in a few family pictures, a show and tell item, and a fluffy friend to share with the class. Each person in the class will write them a letter too. These will go in a book along with their favorite things sheet for them to take home as a memento at the end of the week on Friday.

When your child has been picked, you will receive a letter home on a Friday with all of the details. It’s a fun and exciting thing for them to look forward to each week!

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

Library Field Trip

Hello Everyone,

On Friday, October 12th, the first graders took a field trip to the Warren Free Public Library. We walked there with the help of a few chaperones and the sheriff’s department. When we arrived, we heard two stories read by Sara Davis. Then, students were able to browse around and look at books. They also received a free book from the library. Here are a few pictures from that day. I apologize for not posting them sooner.

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

Kevin Hawkes’ Visit

Hello Everyone,

We were very lucky to have the chance to meet with author/illustrator Kevin Hawkes. He is from Gorham, Maine and visited with us at WCS for three days on November 1st, 2nd, and 5th. First graders met with him in the library on Thursday. We saw one of his sketch books, watched him draw a variety of things, saw some original art work, and listened to him read There’s a Dinosaur on the 13th Floor. His visit was funded by our PTF and a grant from the Onion Foundation. Here are a few pictures below.

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

“Hall”oween at WCS

Hello Everyone,

We had a great turn out at the WCS PTF “Hall”oween event on October, 27th. Mr. Sturgis and I passed out candy in front of my classroom. I got to see 7 of my kiddos dressed up and having fun. We had somewhere between 350-400 kids come through. It was an awesome event for the families of our community.

Thanks,

Mrs. Sturgis
