Kevin Hawkes’ Visit

Hello Everyone,

We were very lucky to have the chance to meet with author/illustrator Kevin Hawkes. He is from Gorham, Maine and visited with us at WCS for three days on November 1st, 2nd, and 5th. First graders met with him in the library on Thursday. We saw one of his sketch books, watched him draw a variety of things, saw some original art work, and listened to him read There’s a Dinosaur on the 13th Floor. His visit was funded by our PTF and a grant from the Onion Foundation. Here are a few pictures below.

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

“Hall”oween at WCS

Hello Everyone,

We had a great turn out at the WCS PTF “Hall”oween event on October, 27th. Mr. Sturgis and I passed out candy in front of my classroom. I got to see 7 of my kiddos dressed up and having fun. We had somewhere between 350-400 kids come through. It was an awesome event for the families of our community.

Thanks,

Mrs. Sturgis

Hello Everyone,

Just a friendly reminder that book orders are due tomorrow if paying by check with a paper copy. If you’re ordering online, you have Saturday as well. I will place the order on Sunday. Don’t forget that there are always a couple of books offered for $1 and all kids love to get new books.

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

Firefighters Visit 1st-Graders

Hello Everyone,

Hopefully you’ve already heard from your child about our exciting visit from Chief Andrews and his firefighters today. We spent a half hour with them and got to see some of their gear and a truck. We also got to ask and answer questions. Some students even tried on the coat and helmet. All of their gear weighs about 75 pounds. Here are a few pictures of all the fun!

Field Trip to Union Fairgrounds

Last week, we went to the Conservation Fair at the Union Fairgrounds. Thank you to Carl Anderson, Pentipa Meservey, and Lacey Shay for being our class chaperones. We visited booths for the Botanical Gardens about butterflies, wild blueberries, animal furs with skulls, and differing leaves on trees. We also saw two singing performances. Here’s a few pictures from the day.
