100th Day Fun!

We had many challenges and treats throughout the day yesterday. In the morning, students listened to The 100th Day Project and I Count 100 Things on Raz-Kids, were challenged to write 100 words, and heard Hettie’s 100 Hats while coloring in reading groups. We colored a special pair of 100 shaped glasses and dumped our baggies of 100 snack items into a bowl for trail mix. When we returned from recess, we enjoyed 2 mini strawberry donuts that helped make 100 on our paper plates and a 100th day certificate.

In math, students worked together in small groups to make a chain link out of 100 numbered paper strips that weren’t in order. They were also challenged to fill in the missing numbers on a 100 number grid and add 100 stickers to a blank number grid in less than 20 minutes. We read a special issue of Scholastic News with baby hippos that can weigh 100 pounds and watched a short video of a dolphin that can have 100 or so teeth. At the end of the day we enjoyed some delicious trail mix. It was a super fun and very exciting 100th day of school!

100th Day Guest Readers

We were lucky enough to have three parents volunteer to read a book during our 100th day celebration yesterday. Special thanks to Randi Wachter who read One Hundred Shoes, Jillian Gagnon who read Rocket’s 100th Day of School, and Michelle Lewis who read 100 Snowmen. We also enjoyed having Singto’s grandmother and mom join us along with Sylas’ mom.

100th Day on Wednesday

Just an update after all of this crazy weather we’ve been having: The 100th day of school will be tomorrow, Wednesday, 2/15. We have fun activities planned for the whole day. Don’t forget to bring in your collection of 100 items to share with the class at 2:30 p.m. and your baggy of 100 pieces of snack food to add to our trail mix. Any parents who can join us at 2:30 p.m. are still more than welcome!

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

100th Day of School

With today’s inclement weather, the 100th day celebration will now take place on Friday, February 10th. We will still plan on sharing students’ collections at 2:30 p.m. and having a special trail mix made of 100 pieces of an assortment of snacks. You’re all still welcome to join us on Friday. I’ll take pictures of the collections for those who aren’t able to make it into the classroom.

We have some fun activities planned for both reading in the morning and math in the afternoon along with a special edition of Scholastic News.

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

Chewonki

We had an awesome presentation from Chewonki’s traveling natural history program called “animal adaptations” on Friday. Many students got to try on new hands, feet, or coats to show different ways that animals adapt to survive in their habitats. We got to see a millipede, box turtle, and bard owl.

I’d like to thank the PTF for funding this wonderful learning experience for our first graders at WCS.
