Thanksgiving Like the Pilgrims

I hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving had a wonderful day on Thursday with family and friends. I wanted to say thank you to all the moms, dads, grandparents, and other relatives who came to watch the kids celebrate together as a classroom, in a tradition that was started by the Pilgrims back in 1621. We had grapes, raisins, craisins, corn bread, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, corn, cider, and pumpkin cobbler to sample.

Special thanks to Avery’s mom, Sylas’ mom, and Everett’s mom for helping to set up the desks and food while we were at the library. Also many thanks to everyone for sending in food or paper products to help make the day possible. We all looked forward to it, and I think the kids enjoyed themselves. Here are a few more photos.

Thursday Reminders

Just a friendly reminder that picture retake day is on Thursday, November 17th.

This is also the first day for my parent-teacher conferences. Everyone’s appointments have already been scheduled for 15 minute blocks. I will be sharing their Unit 1 and 2 math assessments, their beginning and ending narrative writing assessments, and their current instructional reading levels with each of you. If you have any specific questions try to have them ready for me as well. Please try hard to arrive on time and help keep all of us to the scheduled time slots.

I’m looking forward to meeting with all of you.

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

Guest Reader 11/4

I wanted to thank Michelle Lewis for being our guest reader last Friday. She read the book The Honeybee Man by Lela Nargi to help end our week-long theme of honeybees. We read many great nonfiction books throughout the week too. Your kiddos should all be experts on the Maine state insect. Almost everyone enjoyed the orange blossom honey sample at snack-time. The three who were not there at the end of the day to sample it will get their’s tomorrow.

Beekeeper Visit 11/2

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to tell everyone what a wonderful visit our class had yesterday from Peter Lammert from the Knox Lincoln Beekeepers. He gave a 40 minute presentation about honeybees, and the kiddos were engrossed the whole time. I was very proud of every one of them. They asked many great questions and answered all of his questions. We have learned so much this week about the Maine state insect.

I’ve shared a few photos below. Caleb’s name was drawn by Mr. Lammert for the opportunity to try on his beekeeper suit. Sylas was getting an answer to his question about how to use the brush that we had seen that morning in a nonfiction book called Bees.

Guest Reader 10/28

Hello,

I’m a little bit behind, but I wanted to say thank you to Randi Wachter for taking time to read a book to our class last Friday, October 28th. She read Fletcher and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson. It was a nice end to our week of books about Fall. Take a look at the picture below.
