Author Chris Van Dusen Thursday Night

Don’t forget that everyone is welcome to come meet Chris Van Dusen in the WCS gym on Thursday night at 6 p.m. He is a local author from Camden, Maine. We are all very excited about this! I hope you and your family will be able to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!

I look forward to seeing many of you there. Special thanks to our PTF for sponsoring this event. Remember, our read-a-thon started this week, and the money raised helps pay for this event and others too.

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

Field Trip Tomorrow

Just a quick reminder that our field trip to the Conservation Fair at the Union Fairgrounds is tomorrow. We’ll be leaving as close to 8:45 a.m. as possible. Most of you chose to send in a cold lunch for the day. It’s going to be chilly to start, so make sure they have sweaters, sweatshirts, or jackets and long pants.

We’re looking forward to it. I’ll let you know what we were able to see while we were there afterwards and will try to include some pictures. A big thank you to our two chaperones Debra Ripley and Michelle Lewis.

Library Trip Postponed

I hope everyone saw the notice that went home today about the library trip that was scheduled for tomorrow being changed to Friday, October 14th instead. This is because of the rain in the forecast for Friday morning.

The new permission slip will need to be signed and if you are able to chaperone on the new date, you can let me know on the slip as well.

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

Thank You Visitors

I just wanted to shout out a big “Thank You” to all of the family members who took time out of their busy schedules to come visit our classroom tonight at Open House. It was very informal, but I hope that everyone enjoyed the chance to look around and see some of the hard work everyone has been doing already this year.

We are off to a great start!

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

Book Orders Due 9-23

Book order forms for our classroom went home today for the month of September. For anyone wishing to order books, the forms and money are due back by next Friday, September 23rd. You can either send cash or make a check out to Scholastic Reading Club.

You can also order online at scholastic.com/readingclub. Our class code is NBG3T. You can find more information on the Scholastic Reading Club tab on the top page of this scholiscoolwcs.com site.

We earn points that are used to order new books for our classroom library that students use weekly to find books for their reading boxes. Forms will come home once a month for your book ordering opportunity. It’s a great way to keep kids excited about reading!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mrs. Sturgis

Open House on Wednesday

Just a reminder that the K-3 Open House is scheduled for this Wednesday, September 14th from 6-7 p.m. Stop by our classroom at your leisure and see some of the work on display. We’ll have our “Counting Book” out from math, our “Small Moments” stories from writers’ workshop, and a fun “All About Me” sheet. It will be a very informal browsing hour.

We’ll also have some information on Dreambox for laptops, desktops, and ipads for those who need it.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask while you’re visiting.

Remember that the book fair will be open downstairs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday!

Mrs. Sturgis

Raz-kids Parent Access

I have received email addresses and parent signatures from almost everyone in the class to allow parent access to one of our reading programs used during Readers’ Workshop called Raz-kids. I have just entered them in today, so you should be receiving an email soon from Raz-kids.

This will give you a password to allow you to check on your child’s activity and progress reports on Raz-kids. Hopefully this will help you to see how your child’s doing with their assignments and how they are doing with the comprehension quizzes that they take after listening to books.

On Fridays they can spend the stars that they’ve earned from listening to books and taking quizzes. They can be spent in the rocket and robot. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Mrs. Sturgis

Friday’s Activities

On Friday, September 9th we had our first school-wide assembly at 9:30 a.m. in the WCS gym. All 360ish of us gathered together for the first time. New staff members were introduced and new students to WCS were asked to stand up. Sylas Ripley was the only new member to stand from our class. Our class has welcomed him to our school in a friendly WCS manner.

On Friday afternoon, we also had our second fire drill of the year. This one was unannounced. Our class followed procedures quickly, quietly, and safely. The entire school was out of the building in less than one minute. That’s no easy feat, but our students were all up to the task.

After the fire drill, we were all awarded with a Popsicle. These were greatly appreciated by all as it was a very hot day!

Thanks,

Mrs. Sturgis
