Book Buddies with Pre-K

We met with our Pre-K book buddies yesterday for the second time this year. In October our class voted on a school community service project and they decided that they wanted to help Pre-K students with their reading. As you know, having others read to you is a wonderful way to learn vocabulary and to hear how language works while also enjoying the illustrations.

They have been doing a great job so far, and we all look forward to visiting the Pre-K room. We meet with them on the first Monday of every month at the beginning of our Social Studies time.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to post pictures because there are many students in the Pre-K room who do not have permission for pictures to go on the web. However, you can picture how cute they all look sitting with their little buddies and reading to them like the big first graders they are!

Book Orders Due Friday

Just a friendly reminder that book orders for December are due this Friday the 11th. If you are placing an online order please have it in by Friday at 6:00 p.m. I plan to place the order on the same evening as this is the deadline to receive the books before Christmas.

Please let me know if you want to pick up your book order rather than having it sent home with your child. If I don’t hear from you, I’ll send it home as normal.

Nightly Reading Logs

Hopefully you have all noticed that your child will now have nightly reading homework. I am asking that they read or be read to for 20 minutes each night. They should mark the date, books read, and a book rating on their log each night. There is also a place for parents to initial that it has been completed.

Please have your child return the pink reading log to school each day for my review, and I will return it each night. The logs will be kept at school at the end of the week on Fridays. However, I do encourage you to keep up the nightly routine over the weekend if possible.

Thanks for your help and encouragement with your child’s reading goals.
