Lynn Plourde Assembly Tomorrow

I am very excited to have the privilege of an all school assembly on Wednesday at 9 a.m. with local author Lynn Plourde. Lynn lives in Winthrop, Maine and has had 29 children’s books published, including Merry Moosey Christmas, Pigs in the Mud, Dino Pets, and You’re Wearing THAT to School?

If you ordered a new book or sent in an old favorite from home for Lynn to autograph, I hope to have them sent home by Thursday if they’re ready. Let me know if you prefer to pick them up versus having it sent home in your child’s backpack.

A big thank you goes out to our Warren Community School PTF for funding the event as well as a big thank you to everyone who participated in the Read-a-thon!

Please look for pictures of the event to be posted to this site sometime over the weekend or possibly sooner.

Thanks,

Mrs. Sturgis

Read-a-thon Money Due Wednesday

Just a last minute reminder that read-a-thon money is due on Wednesday. Try your best to get it in on time, but if you forget it on Wednesday, it’s ok to send it in on Thursday.

I appreciate all of your efforts to make sure your child is reading at home and being read to. Being excited about and practicing reading at an early age will help your child to do well in all subjects. Everyone should have a love for books! I know I do!

Remember, the money raised from the read-a-thon will pay for our author visit next week. We are very fortunate to have the PTF sponsoring Lynn Plourde for two whole days at our school!

Apples

We learned all about apples this week with our read aloud titles: The Apple Orchard Riddle, Autumn is for Apples, Fall Apples Crisp and Juicy, and Apple Countdown.

We read apple poems, did an apple dot-to-dot, and did some other fun apple counting sheets.

We also watched this fun video about Johnny Appleseed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ev4-8oPEnZY

APPLES
by Helen H. Moore

Apples, apples, what a treat,
sweet and tart and good to eat.
Apples green and apples red,
hang from branches overhead,
and when they ripen, down they drop,
so we can taste our apple crop.

Apples, Apples, and More Apples!

You may have heard that we made our own applesauce today in the crock pot. It was delicious. Everyone tried it, and all but two loved it! If you want to try the recipe it’s a simple one.

  • 12 apples cored and cut in chunks (We used Macs and left the skin on.)
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 tsp. of cinnamon

Cook in a crock pot on high for 4-5 hours. Stir once after a few hours. It tastes yummy while it’s warm. Enjoy!

Here’s a fun poem we read this week too:

Peel an Apple

 Peel an apple
cut it up,
and cook it in a pot.
When you taste it,
you will find,
it’s applesauce you’ve got!

Lynn Plourde Book Order Forms Due Thursday!

Hello everyone. I just wanted to send a quick reminder that if you’re interested in ordering any books by Lynn Plourde at cost the form and payment are due to the office on Thursday, October 8th.

You can also send in any Lynn Plourde books from home with the order form and information by Thursday too. Lynn will autograph the books when she visits our school on Wednesday and Thursday, October 28th & 29th for a two day author visit.

Our Warren Community School PTF is providing this great opportunity for our kids with the help of our school read-a-thon. Don’t forget to keep track of those reading minutes and ask friends and family to pledge your child’s hard work.

Thanks,

Mrs. Sturgis
