This week’s video fun!

Here are some of the videos we watched this week when we came in from recess before we settle down to math. They all had to do with things we were learning about in some way, such as names in our phonics lessons, the seasons and the change from summer to fall, tally marks in math and kindness all week with our read-alouds. Your child might enjoy listening to some of them again.

Book Orders Should Arrive on Tuesday

I just wanted to let you know that the Scholastic book order is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, September 29th. If it comes in by lunch time, I should be able to sort the books and send them home at the end of the day. If they come in after lunch, I will sort them after school and send them home on Wednesday.

Thank you to those who were able to make a book order purchase this month. I was able to order 15 new books for our classroom library with my bonus points and 1 new big book titled Apples for Everyone. Among the 15 books were I Will Take a Nap by Mo Willems, Lego Star Wars: Revenge of Sith, The Day the Crayons Came Home, and a Scooby Doo 10 pack.

Thank You,

Mrs. Sturgis

Thank You For Visiting

I just wanted to take a quick minute to thank all the parents and family members who came to our open house on Wednesday night. I hope you enjoyed walking through your child’s classroom and looking through some of the things we have started to work on after only having been in school for 11 days.

I am very pleased with the way this year is starting out, and I think all students are going to make great gains in their reading, writing, math, and social skills. I have a wonderful bunch of first graders!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Library on Mondays

Hello,

I just wanted to update everyone on our weekly library time. We have signed up for Monday mornings from 9:00 to 9:15 a.m. We can currently take out two paperbacks at a time. They are allowed to go home. If your child brings their library books home try to help remind them that they need to be brought back on time. It might be helpful to plan to bring them back to school on Fridays so that they are not forgotten when we go first thing on Mondays.

Thanks for your help with this.

Quick Note

On Tuesday we will have Music for our special.

If you haven’t brought in your headphones yet, please try to do so by Thursday if at all possible. I plan to let kids start using the laptops for a listening center on Thursday.

If you haven’t brought in a 1 1/2 binder yet, please also try to do so by Thursday or next Tuesday at the latest.

Thank you for all of your help with getting all of the needed school supplies.

A Great Day!

Well, we all made it through our first day of school. I hope your child had a great day. I sure did. It was a bit crazy in the morning, but hopefully we got most of the supplies delivered and jitters worked out. Everyone should have brought home a yellow home/school folder in their backpack which had the very important school forms inside. Do your best to turn those in by Tuesday or Wednesday.

We covered a lot of classroom routines today, and we will have many more to cover tomorrow. The kids did a great job today of listening and trying their best. We squeezed in one fun sing-a-long and learned the “Days of the Week” song to the Addams family tune. You can hear it here if you’d like. //www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtQcnZ2JWsY

More to come soon,
