Excited for Tomorrow!

We have a fun day planned for tomorrow! We will be reading our letters to Luke, our star of the week, in the morning and presenting him with his booklet afterwards. During Readers’ Workshop we have some new books to listen to on Tumblebooks and Raz-kids. We’ll be making a paper snowman right before lunch. In the afternoon we’ll be practicing our math with Dreambox, bunny hop, and domino top-it. After, we’ll have book buddies with our pre-K friends. We’ll also be watching a 12 minute Berenstain Bears “Think of Those in Need” video at the end of the day.

I hope everyone enjoys their time together during the school vacation!

Letters to an Author

Our class letters were mailed yesterday to Jan Brett. After doing an author study of her last week, we all wrote her a letter on Friday as part of our daily letter writing practice. I am hopeful that we may get a reply of some sort sometime in the next month. If we do, I will be sure to post it here on the blog.

Students were interested to know that she lives in Massachusetts and has a hedgehog and a guinea hen for pets. You can enjoy this video that we watched at the end of last week. http://www.janbrettvideos.com/jan_brett_at_home_high_bandwidth.htm

Reading Logs!

Tomorrow I will also be sending home a weekly reading log in your child’s home/school folder. I would like all students to read for at least 10 minutes each night from Monday to Thursday as part of their literacy homework. A parent’s initials or signature is requested along with the title of the book or books and a quick star rating.

Thank you for helping your child get daily practice with their reading at home in a leisurely setting.
